The last news that we heard from Microsoft regarding the Windows 10 userbase was when the operating system had 500 million users. That was almost a year ago. Now Microsoft has revealed at its Build 2018 developers’ conference today that Windows 10 now powers more than 700 million devices across the world. The company also revealed that Office 365 now has more than 135 million active commercial users.
Microsoft launched Windows 10 in 2015 and its initial goal was to have the operating system running on one billion devices by 2018. The company then realized that this was an over-ambitious target and abandoned the goal to hit the billion mark by 2018.
Windows 10 has gained some 200 million users over the past year so that’s not bad at all. It is growing at a decent speed, and even though it won’t be hitting one billion users across the globe any time soon, the numbers are great.
The company has been seeing a lot of interest in its Office 365 subscription plan. It had 120 million active commercial users in October of last year and the company announced today that the figure is now 135 million.
It hasn’t revealed the figure for Microsoft 365 yet. That’s a new subscription service that bundles access to Windows 10, Office 365, and a suite of security and mobile device management tools.
